Thermal imaging camera designer and manufacturer argus, which was owned by e2v, has been acquired by Avon Robber.

Specializing in thermal imaging cameras for first responder and fire markets, argus is based in Chelmsford, England, as is e2v. The company’s imagers are primarily aimed at civil firefighting and law enforcement, but are also used by the United Kingdom navy, the US Coastguard, and the Australian, Indian, Pakistani, and Swedish navies.

The business will be integrated into Avon Protection, which develops chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection, providing solutions for air, land, and sea based personnel in military, law enforcement, first responder, firefighting, and industrial sectors worldwide. The company’s list of clients includes the UK Ministry of Defesce and other NATO allies, and the United States Department of Defense.

"The addition of argus to the Group further broadens the range of products we are able to offer our customers in the key fire and first responder markets," said Andrew Lewis, Interim Chief Executive Officer. "The argus team brings a wealth of technical expertise in this area which will also generate longer term product development opportunities for the Protection & Defense business."

Leon Klapwijk, Vice President of Sales for EMEA /Asia Pacific, Avon Protection, also commented “This acquisition provides us with state-of-the-art products that really fit with our current product range. With high profile clients in the UK, the USA and Asia Pacific and established distribution channels, this is a key acquisition for Avon.”
