In 2015, the robotics and automation markets in Germany reached a new record high of 12.2 billion euros, which represents a 7% rise compared to the previous year, according to the VDMA.

In 2015, therobotics and automationmarkets in Germany reached a new record high of 12.2 billion euros, which represents a 7% rise compared to the previous year, according to the VDMA.

Integrated assembly solutions achieved a turnover volume of 6.9 billion euros (up 10%), while robotics saw a new record high of 3.3 billion euros (up 1%), and machine vision increased by 9% to 2 billion euros. For 2016, machine vision is projected to have the highest jump, with experts predicting an 8% rise to 2.2 billion euros. The VDMA also forecasts that robotics will rise 2% to 3.4 billion euros, while integrated assembly solutions will remain at its current pace. Overall, the robotics and automation markets in Germany should reach a new record high of 12.5 billion euros, which would represent a 2% rise over 2015.

In 2015, the domestic market accounted for the highest turnover share of 45% in 2015, followed by Europe (excluding Germany) with a 24% share. The largest single market abroad was China, accounting for 11%, while North America accounted for 9%. The export share of the sector has risen steadily since 2010, with the latest growth rate at 55%.

Overall growth in robotics and automation can be attributed to the increased global use of robotics. Between 2010 and 2015, 1.1 million new industrial robots were installed, according to figures from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), which projects that the demand for robots will continue to develop in the coming years. By 2018, according to the VDMA, the world’s factories will have a total of 2.3 million industrial robots installed by 2018, which would indicate an annual growth rate of 12% in the number of robots deployed from 2016 – 2018.
