From May 1-3 in Santa Clara, CA, USA, more than 1,200 engineers, product designers, business leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs are expected to gather at the Embedded Vision Summit to discuss the latest in embedded vision technology, including deployable computer vision and deep learning.

Focused on the technologies, hardware, and software that bring visual intelligence to products, the 2017 Summit provides attendees with a chance to learn the latest practical techniques and technologies for vision-based product development, and illuminates the commercial landscape, trends, and business opportunities in this fast-growing market. Participants, according to the Embedded Vision Alliance, will also learn the business implications of vision technologies, as well as how to bring computer vision into cloud applications, embedded systems, mobile apps, and wearables.

"With breathtaking speed, computer vision is transitioning from a research topic to a ubiquitous technology in applications from autonomous vehicles to retail analytics to toys," said Jeff Bier, founder, Embedded Vision Alliance. "The Embedded Vision Summit brings together more than 1,200 industry innovators, top technologists, business executives, and experienced engineers — game changers from around the world who are creating 'machines that see.'"

During the Summit, there will be two days of sessions on embedded vision and deep learning techniques, technologies, and opportunities, including multiple expert presentations on deep learning for vision, 3D perception, and low-power vision implementation. Sessions are broken into four tracks:

  • Technical Insights Track: Featuring introductory and advanced “how-to” session on tools, algorithms, and techniques across applications such as the cloud, embedded, mobile, and wearable. Speakers from companies such as Intel, Microsoft, and General Motors will present.
  • Business Insights Track: Learn about the latest market and technology trends and hear how industry leaders are bringing value to a wide range of industries using computer vision. Speakers from companies such as Google, LG, and ARM will present.
  • Enabling Technologies Track: Discover the latest computer vision tools, processors, and other technologies that you can use to develop practical, marketable, innovative products now. Speakers from companies such as Xilinx, MathWorks, and Qualcomm will present.
  • Fundamentals Track: This new track will feature introductory tutorials led by computer vision technology leaders and is perfect for those who are new to the embedded vision field -- or to some aspects of it. Speakers from companies such as Panasonic, Carnegie Robotics, and NovuMind will present.

There will also be a one-day workshop that explores these enabling technologies in depth. These workshops are organized by Embedded Vision Alliance Member companies (Allied Vision, Synopsys, Khronos Group, and VeriSilicon), and are presented by experienced engineers from these companies.

At The Vision Technology Showcase, attendees will have the opportunity to see demonstrations of the latest vision processors, tools, software, and applications, as well as hear presentations on these products from experienced application engineers. There will be more than 100 demonstrations of such products from more than 50 companies, including MVTec,Allied Vision, Xilinx, Euresys,Vision Components, and XIMEA.

Also held at the Summit will be The Vision Tank competition, during which five finalist companies will compete by presenting their innovations to a panel of investors and industry experts for the chance to win a $5,000 grand prize.

Last but not least, keynote speakers will include Marc Pollefeys, Director of Science for Microsoft HoloLens, who will present on recent advances in 3D computer vision and mixed reality, and Professor Jitendra Malik, former Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California at Berkeley, who will review progress in deep visual understanding.
