Sony introduces image sensors featuring third generation CMOS global shutter mode

Sept. 7, 2017
With the release of the IMX420 and IMX428 CMOS image sensors, Sony has introduced its first models that feature the company’s third generation CMOS global shutter mode.

With the release of the IMX420 and IMX428 CMOS image sensors,Sonyhas introduced its first models that feature the company’s third generation CMOS global shutter mode. Both Pregius CMOS image sensors are 7 MPixel, diagonal 17.6 mm sensors with a 4.5 µm pixel size. The IMX420 achieves a frame rate of 134.5 fps at 12-bit depth, while the IMX428 achieves a frame rate of 51.4 fps at 12-bit depth. The IMX420 has a scalable bit depth of 8, 10, and 12 bits, and can be programmed for multiple regions of interest, while the IMX428 sensor is available only in a 12-bit model.

The sensors come equipped with the scalable low-voltage signaling embedded clock (SLVS-EC) interface, as well as new features like high/low conversation gain, dual trigger, and dual ADC and self-triggering to increase the maximum throughput for object recognition and quality assurance of moving objects in machine vision, robotics, and factory automation, according to FRAMOS. Mass production is schedule for spring 2018, but evaluation samples are now available at FRAMOS.
