IDS Imaging Development Systems entered 2018 experiencing double-digit growth in order intake, with help from strong sales of the company’s machine vision cameras on the Asian and North American continents.
Only three years after the company’s 500,000thcamera was produced, delivery of the millionth camera is expected in the first half of 2018. As a result of the company’s positive growth over the recent years, IDS’ headquarters in Obersulm, Germany will be expanded in 2019, as a technology center 3,200 sqm in size is being planned.
IDS notes that the introduction of the IDS NXT vegas vision-app based camera, the company is expanded into new business areas. The IDS NXT vegas enables and supports networked applications of Industry 4.0. The company touts IDS NXT as a hybrid between a smart camera and a classic machine vision setup with lens, light, camera, cable, PC, and software and is described as an embedded vision platform that includes LED light source, liquid autofocus lens, Time of Flight distance sensor, CMOS image sensor, OLED display, embedded processor, and a full HALCON Embedded machine vision software runtime license.
The first model in the IDS NXT platform is the IDS NXT vegas, which features a 1.3 MPixel CMOS image sensor, an integrated liquid lens, LED illumination ToF sensor for distance measurement, and RS-232 interface. The camera—which is also available in a board-level option—automatically reports application-relevant events via GPIOs and for data exchange, the sensor is equipped with generic interfaces, including GigE. The RS-232 interface can be configured for individual requirements and the app determines which data are transferred and defines the way to interpret them, according to IDS.
As of now, IDS employs approximately 240 people and has branches in the US, Japan, and the UK, as well as representative offices in France, the Netherlands and Korea.
