AI Core, an embedded compact artificial intelligence processing card for edge computing, is a mini-PCIe module powered by Intel Movidius Myriad 2 vision processing unit (VPU) technology. The low-power module, according to AAEON, enhances Industrial Internet of Things devices with hardware-accelerated deep learning and enhanced machine vision functionality. In addition to the Myriad 2 VPU, the board features 512 MB onboard DDR memory, supports TensorFlow and Caffe frameworks, and offers a software development kit. Using the supported software, users can create and train neural networks in the cloud and run it locally on the AI Core.

Targeting applications such as drones, virtual reality, robotics, smart home devices, smart cameras, and surveillance, the AI Core can be paired with AAEON’s UP Squared, which is an expandable board powered by Intel Celeron N3350, Intel Pentium N4200, Intel Atom x5-E3940, and Intel Atom x7-E3950 processor families.
