X-ray system measures coatings The Fischerscope XDL Windows-based x-ray system measures the thickness of a range of coatings and can also test various materials. An economy system comes with a fixed specimen support plate and fixed x-ray tube mounting; an intermediate system with an adjustable x-y table and motorized tube-height adjustment; and a top system with programmable x-y-z travel. Running under Windows 95, WinFTM software is used to compute coating thicknesses using an x-ray fluorescence method that eliminates the need for calibration standards. The measurement head is 21.6 in. wide and 22.5 in. deep; the slotted measurement chamber is 18 ¥ 19.7 ¥ 12 in. The system includes an external PC and a color monitor for data and video displays.
