MARCH 29--MVTec Software GmbH has recently released "GrayMorph," an extension package for HALCON 6.0.1. The "GrayMorph" package contains four new operators for very fast gray value morphology. The functions are useful for many surface-inspection applications. These new functions are gray_opening_shape, gray_closing_shape, gray_dilation_shape, and gray_erosion_shape.

Similar operators (names without the suffix "_shape") already exist in HALCON. They are also used for gray value morphology. However, the new operators work with limited structured types such as rectangle, octagon, and rhombus. These limitations make the operators up to 10 times faster than with HALCON's standard version. The "GrayMorph" package is available as a free download to all HALCON 6.0.1 users at www.mvtec.com/halcon/packages/graymorph.

HALCON, the professional machine-vision library, is an extensive source of image-processing functions with more than 950 operators. It is available for WindowsNT/2000, Linux (Intel), Solaris (Sparc) Unix, Tru64, and Philips Trimedia. Functions can be called via the convenient interactive user interface Hdevelop and from C/C++ or COM (MS Visual Basic compatible).

Founded in 1996, MVTec is a spin-off of the University of Munich and the Bavarian Research Center of Knowledge Based Systems (FORWISS). During its first four years, MVTec acquired a solid reputation in Europe and Asia with HALCON, the company's leading product.
