SEPTEMBER 3--Teradyne (Westford, MA; www.teradyne.com) Assembly Test Division has received an order from Beijing International Switching System Corporation Ltd. (BISC), a division of Siemens JV. BISC will take delivery of two Teradyne Optima 7300 postreflow automated optical inspection systems, the first of their kind to be used in China. Jia Zhi Yun, department manager for industrial engineering at Beijing International Switching Systems, was responsible for evaluation and selection of the new solution.

The Optima 7000-Series is based on advanced, patented lighting, camera, software, and mechanics. The result is highly reliable, repeatable, and accurate optical inspection, which can operate at line speed and is ideal for in-line production. The Optima 7300 features a new, high-speed x-y positioning gantry and new image detection and acquisition architecture that complete the scan, diagnosis, and board-handling cycle at greater than twice the speed or more of competing alternatives. The system is designed for very-high-volume manufacturers who have extreme manufacturing cycle requirements, delivering PCB inspection rates of 7 square inches per second while providing 100% coverage for solder and component defects.
