SEPTEMBER 23--Eastman Kodak Company's Research Systems Inc. (RSI; Rochester, NY; www.rsinc.com/education) has announced the availability of the IDL Student Edition--a fully functional version of RSI's flagship IDL software product. Its affordable price makes it more accessible to students at colleges and universities worldwide.

The IDL student edition was developed to meet the growing need in the student community for a low-cost entry into the world of IDL software data analysis, visualization, and rapid application development. The software allows students to explore the ideas and concepts being taught in today's highly technical curricula such as engineering, earth sciences, physical sciences, medical imaging, and computer science. The new product provides the opportunity for valuable hands-on IDL software development experience at a fraction of the cost of a commercial software license.

IDL software allows students, researchers, and scientists to create robust solutions in a fraction of the time required using C/C++ or other traditional programming environments. It is the preferred visualization and analysis tool in many government, academic, commercial, and research institutions worldwide.

The new student edition is available immediately for Microsoft Windows 98, NT, 2000 and XP operating systems. Pricing is $79 in North America and $99 outside of North America. Pricing includes all shipping and handling charges.
