MAY 1--Adept Technology Inc. (San Jose, CA; www.adept.com), a manufacturer of flexible automation for the fiberoptics, telecommunications, and semiconductor industries, announced the release of Adept HexSight 3.1 vision software, with improved performance and an expanded software toolbox. The geometric locator tool in the new version of the software runs up to twice as fast and at half the memory as the previous version, without compromising the robustness or accuracy, and the software now includes support for OCR (optical character recognition) and data-matrix and barcode reading. The software now also supports cameras based on the IEEE 1394 protocol (FireWire), eliminating the need for frame grabbers.

Adept HexSight vision software is an open system product that runs on a PC and uses off-the-shelf cameras and frame grabbers. Based on geometric characteristics, its locator tool can accurately find objects and discriminate between parts even in complex images with adverse lighting environments. This tool uses Adept Geometric Object Location, an advanced feature detection technology, to identify objects and patterns.
