JUNE 25--Adept Technology Inc. (San Jose, CA; www.adept.com), a manufacturer of flexible automation for the telecommunications, fiberoptics, and semiconductor industries, has signed a $700,000 contract to provide a fully automated fiber-pigtailing workcell to one of the largest photonics manufacturers. The customer chose Adept's factory-automation solution to increase both yield and throughput in its facilities.

This fully automated fiberoptic pigtailing solution includes Adept SmartModules with a four-axis material-handling robot, Adept NanoLine L3 micropositioning stage, AdeptVision AVI for parts location and machine guidance, and a configurable deck for mounting additional process automation. All control and software modules are integrated within the AdeptWindows Controller and patented AIM application software, and the single point user interface is provided through Adept Windows in an industrial PC. The platform deck is configured with mechanical, network, air, vacuum and electrical connections to support multiple NanoLine stages and process modules, each to be served by the material handling robot.
