JULY 18--The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA; Milpitas, CA; www.vesa.org) has released Version 2.0 (FPDM2)-a major update to Flat Panel Display Measurements 1. FPDM2 features several new sections authored by experts in the field of display metrology. This revision of FPDM includes sections on flat-panel measurements such as color reversal and mura and amplified tutorials. There are also measurements unique to CRT and projection displays.

FPDM2 follows its predecessor with an easy-to-use format that provides a description of each measurement with respective setup, procedure, analysis, reporting, and comments. Data, examples, and configurations are also included.

Says William Pavlicek, chairman of the VESA Metrology Committee and a staff member of the department of radiology at the Mayo Clinic (Scottsdale, AZ), " As you page through FPDM2, you quickly realize it is encyclopedic in its content and quality. Edward F. Kelley, a physicist at NIST in Gaithersburg, MD, and the principal architect of both FPDM1 and the new FPDM2, deserves the majority of the credit for the production of this new VESA standard. As chief editor, he has contributed countless hours of his time in the production of this standard."

FPDM2 is available for $39.95 and can be ordered from the VESA Web site or by calling VESA at (408) 957-9270.
