JULY 25--Robotic Vision Systems Inc. (RVSI; Canton, MA) has integrated Ethernet networking capabilities into its HawkEye 15E fixed-position 1-D barcode and 2-D DataMatrix symbol reader. "The growing need for faster data/image transfer within all phases of production make this a natural progression for the HawkEye line of scanners," states Brian Arthur, general manager, 2-D business unit at the Acuity CiMatrix division of RVSI. "Simplicity and communication speed are paramount concerns when choosing to incorporate scanners on the production line. The addition of Ethernet capability to the HawkEye 15E addresses both concerns, when building or revamping high technology production facilities."

The HawkEye 15E goes beyond traditional technologies that rely solely on software-controlled cameras or smart-camera technology, combining laser-targeted reading performance with a compact design for use in tight spaces. A 1/10,000-s exposure freezes moving symbols, making the HawkEye 15E ideal for items in motion or where vibration is present.

The QuicSet laser targeting system uses both visual laser targeting and audio feedback to positively align the HawkEye 15E in seconds. Positive alignment no longer requires frame grabbers, video monitors, or even a PC, so the HawkEye 15E can continue to function/remain productive during line changeovers and in-process adjustments. In-line verification ensures the quality of each mark on a real-time basis, and sophisticated image-processing software accurately captures 2-D Direct Part Mark symbols under varying conditions. The HawkEye 15E also offers I/O interface options with electrical isolation, as well as programmable features for application versatility and configuration flexibility.
