It automatically recognizes the following commonly used symbologies: JAN/EAN/UPC (A, E), CODE39, NW-7, ITF Industrial2of5, CODE93, CODE128 (including EAN128), RSS (resolution of 0.1 mm) bar codes, and DataMatrix (ECC200), QR Code, Micro QR Code, PDF417, RS (resolution of 0.169 mm) 2-D codes. A built-in aiming guide (green LED) locates the reading area for recognition within a 60-mm working distance and 52 x 41-mm field of view. The reader scans codes twice to reduce discrepancies and ensure data accuracy even if code is oriented in reverse. Functions can be set by menu sheet scanning or by host command method using a signal from either a PC or an Omron PLC.

PRESS RELEASE

Omron's Ultra-small Code Reader V400-R Automatically Recognizes Major Linear and 2D Codes Used on Paper/Labels

SCHAUMBURG, IL (July 2008)--Omron Electronics LLC (www.omron247.com) has introduced an ultra-small, fixed mount multi-code reader, model V400-R, that automatically recognizes commonly used bar codes and 2D matrix codes to simplify setup. Measuring just 58 x 46 x 24.2mm, the palm-size metal body reader mounts almost anywhere and the combination of flexible mounting orientation and front view or side view models makes the V400-R the most versatile scanner when it comes to installation. A built-in aiming guide (green LED) quickly locates the reading area for recognition within a 60mm working distance and 52 x 41mm field of view. The reader scans codes twice to reduce discrepancies and ensure data accuracy even if the code is oriented in reverse. The reader also offers significant energy savings with the industry's lowest current consumption in both standby and operation modes.

The V400-R reader integrates a visible red LED light source with 1.3 mega-pixel CMOS imaging (1280 x 1024 pixels) for highly accurate reads of 14 standard bar codes and 2D codes. It automatically recognizes the following commonly used symbologies:

a. Bar Code: JAN/EAN/UPC (A, E), CODE39, NW-7, ITF Industrial2of5, CODE93, CODE128 (including EAN128), RSS -- resolution of 0.1 mm

b. 2-D Code: DataMatrix (ECC200), QR Code, Micro QR Code, PDF417, RS -- resolution of 0.169 mm

Setting the V400-R functions can be done by menu sheet scanning or by host command method using a signal from either a PC or an Omron PLC. A built-in "read" LED indicator and internal buzzer provide both visual and audible indication when the imager reads a symbology. A manual scan test button commands the imager to perform a test read without having the imager connected to a logic system to safely troubleshoot the device and isolate faults.

Based on recent comparisons of multi-code readers, Omron's V400-R proved to be the most energy-saving choice on the market with current consumption of 230 mA in operation mode and 130 mA in standby mode.

The V400-R Multi-Code Readers are available from stock in side view and front view models starting at $1,500.00. A cable to connect the reader to a PC or PLC must be ordered separately, starting at $123.50. Omron includes at no charge "Configear" setup and monitoring software that simplifies uploading and downloading imager settings and files, setting or monitoring read rates, and capturing scanner images. Mounting base and L-bracket are also included.
