CEVA and eyeSight Mobile Technologies have jointly developed a software-based gesture recognition solution for the CEVA-MM3101 imaging and vision platform. The combined solution is targeted at camera-enabled devices including smart phones, tablets, smart TVs, automotive infotainment systems, and others. The gesture-recognition system supports multiple hand gestures as well as palm detection and tracking, and multiple users up to 4.5 m away from the device and in low light conditions. The system requires less than 70 MCycles for the gesture application, and consumes less than 20 mW of power in a 28-nm process. The fully programmable CEVA-MM3101 engine can perform additional vision-based functions, such as face detection, eye and object tracking, 3-D map creation, and image-enhancement applications.

The combined solution is targeted at a broad range of smart devices including smartphones, tablets smart TVs, automotive infotainment systems and more. eyeSight's software leverages the CEVA-MM3101 to offer substantial competitive advantages over alternative implementations of gesture recognition-based technology. As an example, the combined CEVA-eyeSight solution requires 20X less power consumption compared to an ARM Cortex-A9 based alternative solution.
