JANUARY 12--POG Präzisionsoptik Gera GmbH (Gera, Germany; www.precisionoptic.com) realized a turnover of about US$8.5 million over FY2006. This corresponds to an increase of more than 25%. "Therefore, 2006 was the most successful year in the 15 years of the company's history," said Manfred Schubach, managing director. Sales abroad have risen by 50%. Currently, export sales make up nearly 50% of the firm's total sales volume. Important partners are companies in Italy, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States.

Nearly a third of the turnover and a large part of growth were realized in the areas of optical systems produced for applications in machine vision and metrology in the semiconductor and aerospace and defense industries. The good market share in the field of optical microstructures could be extended with new customers in microscopy or medical technology.

In 2007, the company intends to continue its successful growth. It has started new investments of about US$1.7 million in modernization and expansion of its lens and prism manufacturing. This will also provide the basis for future projects in the custom optical systems market.

POG Präzisionsoptik Gera develops, produces, and distributes client-specific, precision optical components, as well as systems and appliances for the whole spectral range. Founded in 1991, POG's product portfolio varies from "classical" precision optical components to complex optical and optoelectronic systems that are utilized in the fields of measurement engineering, industrial image processing, medical and laser technology, as well as military and sports optics. Since 1998 POG is DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 certified.
