FEBRUARY 27--After two years of preparation, MVTec Software GmbH (Munich, Germany; www.mvtec.com) is ready to launch the new version of its software library HALCON. The test phase is currently running, and its market launch is set for June 2007. Says Olaf Munkelt, MVTec managing director, "Our product comprises more than only the software library. We provide individual support for free throughout the world."

He continues, "From our point of view, it is important to thoroughly prepare our more than 30 distributor partners for this market launch. Thus, in May 2007 we will hold an international training session for distribution employees from more than 20 countries. The goal is to offer optimum support for the new HALCON 8.0 functions to customers from the first day."

HALCON 8.0 will provide more than 100 new operators. Furthermore, for typical applications the speed of the entire software library is enhanced by 25%, single operators by up to 500%. In addition, HALCON's IDE (integrated development environment) for machine vision, HDevelop and HDevEngine, now provides assistants to simplify the generation of frequently used operator sequences.

The new software includes third-generation matching for 3-D objects; shape-based matching in color images (multichannel images); new operators for OCR advancement; and HALCON/.NET interface for increased performance and more efficient programming.
