MARCH 24--The Acuity CiMatrix division of Robotic Vision Systems Inc. (RVSI; Nashua, NH; www.rvsi.com) has received machine-vision orders aggregating more than $500,000 from three customers in the semiconductor and semiconductor capital-equipment industries. The orders represent a continued resurgence in spending by an industry that relies upon machine vision for quality control, as well as for basic manufacturing technology.

The largest order came from a major OEM manufacturer of semiconductor test handling equipment that uses RVSI machine-vision systems to read Data Matrix codes on semiconductor devices under test. The second order is from a manufacturer of flat-panel displays used in computers and other consumer electronic devices. RVSI systems in this application are used for traceability and process-control purposes. The third order is from an OEM manufacturer of semiconductor package singulation equipment. In this application, RVSI systems are used for precise dimensional measurements and other quality checks on the singulated semiconductor devices.

"Following nearly three years of industry downturn, the semiconductor sector has come back strongly with a demand for machine-vision equipment with enhanced capability and speed," said Ray England, vice president of worldwide sales and marketing, RVSI Acuity CiMatrix. "These orders are proof positive that, as the semiconductor industry grows, we are growing alongside it."

RVSI has a comprehensive line of machine-vision systems. The company is a leader in vision-based semiconductor inspection and Data Matrix-based unit-level traceability. RVSI joins vision-enabled process equipment, high-performance optics, lighting, and advanced hardware and software to assure product quality, identify and track parts, control manufacturing processes, and ultimately enhance profits for companies worldwide. Serving the semiconductor, electronics, aerospace, automotive, pharmaceutical, and packaging industries, RVSI holds more than 100 patents in a broad range of technologies.
