OCTOBER 6--VMETRO (Houston, TX; www.vmetro.com) and Transtech DSP (www.transtech-dsp.com) have announced the signing of a definitive agreement whereby VMETRO has acquired 100% of the shares in the UK-based digital-signal-processing (DSP) solutions provider Transtech DSP Limited. Transtech DSP's technology and product offerings within the areas of DSP equipment represent a strong complement to VMETRO's current line of data-recorder and I/O solutions, enabling the combined entity to provide customers worldwide with complete high-performance systems solutions for radar and sonar processing, digital software radio, spectrum analysis, telecommunications, medical imaging, as well as other advanced tests and measurements. Thus, Transtech DSP and VMETRO have identified substantial sales synergies for both companies.

The transaction will also considerably strengthen VMETRO's position in the UK market. As part of the transaction, the US subsidiaries, VMETRO Inc. and Transtech DSP USA Corporation, based in Ithaca, NY, become an integrated entity serving the US market. Going forward, both the Houston and Ithaca locations will continue to play key roles in serving the US market. Existing customers will continue to work with the same VMETRO and Transtech personnel they currently interact with, but over time will gain access to an even stronger combined team with an enhanced portfolio of available solutions.

Transtech DSP's extensive product line includes innovative signal- and data-processing boards where powerful state-of-the-art FPGA processing engines are paired with DSP or PowerPC processors. In addition, the company offers analog I/O boards, software tools, libraries, drivers, and enclosures. The products support a wide variety of industry-standard embedded buses such as VME, CompactPCI, PCI, and PMC. The company is the first in the industry to field signal-processing products compatible with the new VITA 41 VXS standard with multigigabit/second class serial interconnects.
