Medical LCD display system targets digital mammography
MAY 19--Barco (Belgium; www.barco.com) has announced the Coronis 5MP Mammo, the latest member of its line of Coronis flat-panel-display (FPD) systems. The Coronis 5MP Mammo display system bundles two 5MP, 21.3-in. gray-scale FPDs with built-in I-guard sensor, a dual-head Barcomed display controller, Medical Pro softcopy QA software, a display driver, and digital cabling.
To provide radiologists with the appropriate diagnostic confidence, Barco developed Per Pixel Uniformity (PPU) technology. PPU measures and adjusts the luminance output at pixel level and eliminates screen noise, thereby making each individual pixel comply with DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) standards. To assure that no information is missing, Coronis 5MP Mammo is equipped with Defect Pixel Compensation (DPC) technology that detects and identifies the defect pixels in each individual display.
Coronis 5MP Mammo also features Barco's I-guard that adjusts the luminance output of the actual diagnostic viewing area at the front of the display, thereby ensuring consistent image quality and continuous DICOM accuracy over time and across displays.
Barco's Coronis 5MP Mammo display system is supplied with the Barcomed 5MP2FH display controller. Its 512 Mbytes of memory enables loading of the entire current and prior exams in less than one second. Moreover, the display controller supports dual-head configurations and permits fast and smooth image roaming.
For exceptionally long lifetime, Coronis 5MP Mammo is equipped with Duralight backlight technology. Compared to conventional cold cathode fluorescent lamps, the average lifetime of Barco's backlights is prolonged by a factor of three to five, without increasing power consumption. Thus there is no need to replace the backlight during the life span of the medical display, which reduces system cost.
