Edmund Optics has introduced its new TECHSPEC silicon aspheric lenses, which are suitable for use in midwave infrared (MWIR) applications and provide an alternative forcostly ZnSe lenses and brittle Germanium lenses. The lenses are available in six different 25 mm diameter models in focal lengths of 12.5 mm, 25 mm and 50 mm with either a 3-5 μm anti-reflection coating or uncoated. The lenses are manufactured using an optical grade silicon substrate, which is a low density material, making them ideal for weight-sensitive IR systems, including those found in many defense applications.
