DECEMBER 20--"The pace of introductions of 1394-equipped consumer and computer products has continued strong throughout 2002, including an impressive number of 1394-enabled motherboards," said James Snider, executive director of the 1394 Trade Association (Dallas, TX). "More than 1000 powerful new computer and consumer products equipped with FireWire reached the market this year alone, and now we are preparing for the first new systems incorporating the ultrafast 1394b version of the standard in early 2003. There is a lot of momentum, worldwide."

The roster features a group of new tablet computers, notebooks, and storage devices, along with new digital cameras and televisions. An impressive set of PC motherboards with 1394 also signaled FireWire's continued worldwide expansion. The list includes the Panasonic Toughbook 50 notebook, the Gateway 400x and the Innodesk Laptop. New tablet PCs are from Tatung, along with Viewsonic's V1100, Fujitsu's ST Stylistic, and Motion Computing's M1200 Tablet. Among other new notebooks and desktops with 1394: CyberPower's XP-AV Media Pro; Sony's VAIO PCV-RX790G and VAIO PCV-W10; and Polywell's Poly 884RF-2700.
