JULY 30--RGB Spectrum (Alameda, CA; www.rgb.com) has improved its DGx high-resolution digital recording system for capturing, compressing, storing, and playing back images. The DGx now accepts RGB inputs greater than 1280 x 1024 all the way up to 1600 x 1200 at a 60-Hz refresh rate. Computer, radar, video, and audio acquisition, time-code, and event markers are all supported in this system.

Designed for applications in simulation and training, command-and-control, and monitoring, the DGx accepts up to four image sources for recording to digital tape or disk. Inputs can be computer, radar, FLIR, sonar, and other high-scan-rate video signals up to 1600 x 1200-pixel resolution. Each image's original resolution is preserved. Recording of NTSC/PAL and component S-video signals and stereo audio are available.

The DGx digitizes inputs in real time and plays back from 6 to 25 frames per second, depending on image resolution. It can handle up to four images simultaneously, which simplifies the task of synchronized playback since all inputs are multiplexed on a single storage device. On playback, up to four images can be displayed on a single monitor, or viewed simultaneously on two separate monitors. Three-hour recording times are available using digital tape.

The DGx can be used in monitoring, incident investigation, and liability assessment. It records what is on the screen, who is sitting at the console, and what is being said. With its broad range of input signals, multiple-signal-recording capability, all digital storage, and event marking, the DGx is a flexible and complete recording system.
