FEBRUARY 7--Atmel (San Jose, CA; www.atmel.com) has introduced an improved version of its Camelia 8-Mpixel camera. The Camelia M1 8M (black and white) and Camelia C1 8M (color), are based on a progressive-scan CCD featuring 2300 x 3500. Camelia M1 8M and Camelia C1 8M capture and deliver 12-bit image data.

The CCD sensor works in 1 x 1, 2 x 2, 4 x 4 binning mode and in ROI mode. These features allow faster preview mode from 2.7 to 9 frames/s. On both models, programmable settings allow the user to select different integration time, gain, and offset. External trigger enables synchronizing the camera on external event.

The Camelia M1 8M provides black-and-white images but can be used in tri-shot color mode allowing color acquisition. The Camelia C1 8M uses a color CCD (Bayer filter) and offers four programmable color gains to allow a hardware white-balance correction, thus avoiding additional software processing.

The Camelia 8M system is delivered with application and interface software and supports the Camera Link interface. The Camelia 8M family also includes a parallel LVDS version, which allows the use of longer cable.
