MARCH 24, 2008--New Scale Technologies (Victor, NY, USA;www.newscaletech.com) has expanded its SQUIGGLE motor license agreement with Tamron (www.tamron.co.jp), a manufacturer of high-precision optics and optical assemblies. The multimillion-dollar agreement extends and expands Tamron's license to use New Scale's patented piezoelectric SQUIGGLE motor--reportedly the world's smallest linear motor.
The agreement grants Tamron a license to manufacture SQUIGGLE motors and integrate them into its products at its manufacturing facilities in Japan and other parts of Asia. Tamron may also produce SQUIGGLE motors as a contract manufacturer for New Scale as needed. New Scale will continue to produce SQUIGGLE motors at its manufacturing facility with a production capacity up to 100,000 motors per month for applications including research, electronic locks, and medical devices. Collaboration with Tamron extends that capacity for high-volume consumer products such as mobile phone cameras.
New Scale's micro motors and micro-actuator modules enable design engineers to create smaller products including mobile phone cameras, electronic locks, and intelligent fasteners, nanoscale fluid control including lab-on-a-chip systems, medical devices including miniature drug pumps and endoscopes, optics and imaging systems, automotive modules, lasers, aerospace and defense systems, cryogenic and MRI-compatible instruments, and consumer electronics including micro fuel cells.
