Point Grey has announced the release of the 4.1 MPixel Grasshopper3 GS3-U3-41C6NIR model camera, which features improved near-infrared (NIR) response. The GS3-U3-41C6NIR camera features a 1” CMOSIS CMV4000-3E12 CMOS image sensor with a 5.5 µm x 5.5 µm pixel size that achieves a frame rate of 90 fps. The image sensor uses a 12 µm substrate layer that has increased thickness to enhance sensor response between 750 nm and 1000 nm in the NIR region of the spectrum. Like all Point Grey USB 3.0 camera models, this Grasshopper 3 model uses a proprietary USB 3.0 layer link and frame buffer-based architecture and an image processing pipeline to enable look up table, gamma correction, pixel binning, and USB3 Vision support. GS3-U3-41C6NIR cameras are suitable for use in open road tolling in traffic systems, food inspection, ophthalmology, eye tracking, or failure analysis in industrial applications.
