Worldwide electronics design, fabrication, assembly, and test company Flextronics has announced that its hardware venture arm, Lab IX, has entered into a partnership with3D imaging company Mantis Vision to provide scalable delivery of custom 3D scanning solutions.
Known as MV4D, Mantis Vision’s core technology is designed to enable motion-capable 3D capture for depth sensing, smart objectmeasurement and recognition, and generation of 3D models. Its first product to enter the market, the F5, is a handheld 3D scanning solution with a 3D resolution of up to 0.5mm and a 3D point accuracy of up to 0.05 mm at 0.5m distance. The F5’s XY point density is 3mm in a single frame and it has a 3D distance accuracy of up to 0.5mm over 100 cm. It also features a depth of field of 0.5 – 4.5 m (1’6’’ to 14’7’’), a linear field of view of 3,100 x 3,630mm, an angular field of view of 38° x 44°, and a video frame rate of 10 fps.
In addition, the F5 scanner continuously acquires 3D data for up to an hour at a speed of 500,000 points/s and features a USB 2.0 interface. Accompanying the F5 scanner is MV4D’s MVP-3 productionsoftware, which enables/features 3D data downloads, stitching, automation global alignment processing, composition and measurement tools, triangulation and surfacing, and model quality feedback.
Flextronics’ Lab IX will provide support to Mantis Vision for the continued manufacturing, testing, and production of the F5 scanner, which is reportedly suitable for use in defense and military,forensics and law enforcement, architecture/engineering, oil and gas, maritime, research and education, and 3D scanning service provider applications.
Of the partnership, vice president and head of Lab IX Lior Susan noted the increased use and need for 3D technologies.
