Optotune has announced the release of the EL-10-30-Ci, a 10mm aperture electrically-tunable machine vision lens. The new lens features a self-locking Hirose connector and the matching Lens Driver 4i comes in a rugged steel housing. In addition, the C-Mount lens features a focal tuning range of 200mm down to 80mm.

The EL-10-30-Ci lens is also supported by SANXO Group’s Modular-X machine vision image processing software. Optotune recently displayed the capabilities of the lens and software together at the AIA Vision Show. In the application, two images at different working distances were combined into one live video stream. To do this, the software synchronized the camera with alternating focal power settings of the tunable lens and used an edge detection algorithm to combine the images into one live video stream.
