Engineers at IO Industries (London, ON, Canada) have developed a range of CoaXPress (CXP) cameras dubbed the "Flare" series that the company plans to formally unveil over the next couple of weeks.

According to industry insiders, there are six of the new cameras -- three with 2-MPixel sensors and three with 4-MPixel sensors. These are both available in monochrome, color, and near-infrared versions.

The 2-Mpixel versions operate at a rate of 283 frames/s, while the 4-Mpixel cameras operate at 142 frames/s. Both support the Dual CoaXPress data output format up to 3.125 GHz. They can be synchronized by an external trigger or free-run, consume 4.5 W of power, and weigh just 310 g.

IO Industries expects that its new offerings -- which are all currently available -- will find applications in the inspection and monitoring, motion capture, research, and broadcast and cinema markets.

More details on the latest CXP cameras will be revealed in the February 2012 Product Focus of Vision Systems Design magazine.
