AUGUST 12, 2009--Three new monochrome interlaced camera models -- the TM-770, TM-773NIR, and TM-775NIR -- are aimed primarily at defense and homeland security applications but can also be used for a variety of industrial applications. The cameras give designers a choice of pixel sizes and optical formats ranging from the 2/3-in. ICX422AL sensor in the TM-770, to the 1/2-in. ICX-428AL in the TM-775NIR, to the 1/3-in/ ICX258AL in the TM-773NIR. The latter two sensors provide added sensitivity to NIR light as indicated by the "NIR" designation in the model name. Operating at the standard 768 x 494-pixel TV resolution (30 frames/s), the units provide improved image quality over older interlaced models (signal-to-noise ratio >55 dB) and reduced EMI emissions measured at 12 dB below the maximum limit for Class A products.

PRESS RELEASE

JAI Rolls Out New Interlaced Camera Series

SAN JOSE, California - July 30, 2009 - JAI today announced the release of a new line of monochrome interlaced video cameras designed to provide higher image quality, expanded features, and increased design flexibility for applications utilizing traditional RS-170 (EIA) standard video interfaces. The three new camera models - the TM-770, TM-773NIR, and TM-775NIR - are aimed primarily at defense and homeland security applications, but can be used for a variety of industrial applications, as well.

Although identical in outward appearance, the three different cameras give designers a choice of pixel sizes and optical formats ranging from the 2/3" ICX422AL sensor in the TM-770, to the 1/2" ICX-428AL in the TM-775NIR, to the 1/3" ICX258AL in the TM-773NIR. The latter two sensors provide added sensitivity to near-infrared light as indicated by the "NIR" designation in the model name. With the same physical footprint for all three models, designers can easily find the right model to fit the optics in their current system designs, or gradually migrate from one platform to the other as needs evolve.

Operating at the standard 768 x 494 TV resolution (30 fps), the new cameras provide improved image quality versus older interlaced models (signal-to-noise ratio >55 dB) and reduced EMI emissions measured at 12 dB below the maximum limit for Class A products. A single 15-pin connector is used for power, camera control, and video output, making installation clean and simple. All camera features can be controlled via RS-232 commands over this single interface cable.

Other standard features include electronic shuttering up to 1/10,000th of a second, horizontal mirror image capability, and an integrated 3-axis control function which can be used to operate motorized zoom lenses, change focus and iris settings, move pan and tilt heads, or any combination of three external control circuits.

For added deign flexibility, JAI has created a variety of configuration options particularly well-suited to the rigors of defense and surveillance applications. Included is Auto Level Control (ALC) to automatically adjust gain and shutter settings during changing lighting conditions; conformal coating; pixel blemish compensation; and extended temperature capability for operating in temperatures ranging from -40 degrees C to +65 degrees C.

All three camera housings are 32 mm (h) x 42 mm (w) x 48 mm (d) and support C-mount lenses with adjustable back focus. Board-level versions are also available for large-quantity OEM orders.

About the JAI Group
JAI is a manufacturer of high quality, industrial-grade cameras for the machine vision, transportation, military, aerospace, homeland security, medical and scientific markets.

JAI provides the broadest camera offering of any industrial matrix camera manufacturer in the world. JAI's product line features both CCD and CMOS technologies, spatial resolutions from VGA to multi-mega pixel, progressive scan and interlaced format, and sensitivity to light levels as low as .00001 lux.

Camera offerings include both monochrome and color, triggered and continuous capture, and a wide variety of physical interfaces including Camera Link and the new GigE Vision Gigabit Ethernet standard.

JAI has two primary businesses: Camera Solutions and Traffic Solutions. Camera Solutions is a component supplier that designs, manufactures and markets CCD and CMOS camera solutions primarily for the ITS, medical and industrial machine vision markets. JAI cameras help improve customer businesses in a variety of ways, whether by improving quality and accuracy, lowering costs, increasing yields, or simply enabling better service.

The Traffic Solutions business unit is one of the world's leading manufacturers of specialized traffic systems. Solutions are based on JAI-developed hardware and software, which is often integrated with third-party products.
