PRESS RELEASE
Basler Adds C-Mount Option to Low-cost runner Line Scan Camera Series
Ahrensburg, 21 October 2008 - Basler adds a C-Mount option to the Basler runner Gigabit Ethernet line scan camera family. This series now also includes six C-Mount monochrome models with 1k and 2k line scan CCD sensors and screwable RJ-45 connectors for tight connections.
The runner C-Mount cameras feature a well established Gigabit Ethernet interface that is both GigE Vision and GenICam compliant. Over the past two years, the GigE interface in Basler's scout, pilot, and runner camera families has successfully proven itself in a wide variety of industrial applications. Thanks to the GigE Vision standard, integration is safe and simple, and camera users can quickly begin seeing results.
The runner C-Mount models are in series production already.
Reduced Costs with Gigabit Ethernet Technology
Thanks to Gigabit Ethernet's advantages, the Basler runner family offers reduced costs and lower complexity compared to any system based on components designed for Camera Link. In the line, the frame grabber is eliminated and converter boxes are not necessary. Because each of these components costs several hundred Euros, great cost savings can be achieved. The price for a Gigabit Ethernet cable is typically less than one third of the price of a comparable Camera Link cable which reduces the costs even further.
"With the C-Mount mounting option, the system costs using a runner can be decreased by double digit percentages. Besides that, the compact C-Mount system with a smaller camera and a very compact C-Mount lens allows highest flexibility even in space critical applications," explains Henning Tiarks, Product Manager at Basler Components.
Supported by Basler's pylon Driver Package
Basler's pylon driver package supports both GigE and FireWire cameras. The pylon SDK enables straightforward integration by providing extensive documentation and code samples that can often be simply cut and pasted into existing applications. The pylon driver technology developed by Basler has been proven in several thousand camera installations over the last year and has gained a well-deserved reputation for low CPU load, robustness, and ease-of-use.
Comprehensive documentation and a free-of-charge SDK and viewer tool make it easy to start using and integrating Basler runner cameras.
