SEPTEMBER 4, 2009--The PIXIS: 1300 series adds three configurations to the camera product line: front-illuminated, back-illuminated, and back- illuminated deep depletion CCD cameras. These cameras are based on PI's proprietary 1340 x 1300-pixel format sensors with a 26.8 x 26.0-mm imaging area. The cameras offer deep cooling better than -70°C, with guaranteed vacuum for life of the camera. Other features include dual 100-kHz/2-MHz digitizers, multiple gains, multiple output amplifiers, ultralow read noise of 2 e- rms, all-metal hermetic seals, USB 2.0 interface, and single optical window design for high optical throughput.

PRESS RELEASE
PIXIS: 1300 - Exclusive large format CCD cameras with lifetime vacuum guarantee
Trenton, NJ - August 3, 2009 - Princeton Instruments is pleased to announce the addition of the PIXIS: 1300 series CCD cameras, which adds three configurations to the acclaimed PIXIS line: front illuminated, back illuminated, and back illuminated deep depletion CCD cameras. These cameras are based on PI's proprietary 1340x1300 format sensors with a large 26.8 mm x 26.0 mm imaging area. PIXIS: 1300 is the only camera of its kind to offer deep cooling better than -70oC, with guaranteed vacuum for life of the camera.
"With ultra-low noise electronics and large 20µm pixels, the cameras achieve true 16-bit performance. Previously, researchers interested in low-light, large format imaging had to use smaller pixel sizes of 13.5µm in 2K x 2K. To increase photon capture efficiency, one had to use pixel binning that reduced resolution. The large 20µm pixels of PIXIS: 1300 afford much better light collection efficiency while achieving lowest possible noise, with or without binning," remarks Ravi Guntupalli, Imaging Group Product Manager.
These new cameras offer many features of the renowned PIXIS line including dual 100kHz/2MHz digitizers, multiple gains, multiple output amplifiers, ultra-low read noise of 2 e- rms, all metal hermetic seals, easy to use USB2.0 interface and single optical window design for the best optical throughput. The cameras also boast other salient features of the PIXIS line including flexible binning and ROI capabilities, and support by the respected WinView software package. For integration into complex experiments, a toolkit with LabView examples and Princeton Instruments' PVCAM software development kit are available.
The compact PIXIS: 1300B back illuminated CCD camera is specifically optimized for large format astronomical imaging and chemiluminescence applications. For example, astronomers are particularly sensitive to smearing caused by the convective air currents around telescope optics. For this special requirement the PIXIS: 1300 is available with water-only cooling, completely eliminating the internal fan. The available CoolCUBE liquid circulator allows researchers to capture crisp images by removing heat away from the camera. For operation from remote control rooms, the camera may be equipped with an optional fiber optic data interface. The back illuminated, deep depletion version offers the highest NIR sensitivity while virtually eliminating etaloning.
With very low dark current and read noise, the camera is also capable of detecting ultra-low light levels typical in chemiluminescence and bioluminescence applications. The large imaging area is also ideal for high throughput screening.
