MAY 4, 2009--The TOP 200 telescopic optical probe permits precise measurements of radiance and luminance, as well as chromaticity of displays, panel graphics, and other light sources in conjunction with a spectrometer. The probe features a Pritchard style optical design with integrated view-finder camera and an aperture mirror angled at 15°. The internal camera allows the field of view to be visualized at the PC. A series of interchangeable lenses and software-controlled apertures accommodate a range of distances and measuring-spot sizes. The smallest measuring spot can be achieved with the high-resolution objective lens HRL-90 at 75 μm in diameter. Light radiation is guided to the spectrometer along a multimode fiber. The patented mode mixer delivers uniform light transmission in the fiber to facilitate reproducible measuring results, even if fiber position changes. Measuring error is less than 1%, compared with up to 20% without mode mixer.

PRESS RELEASE
Telescopic Optical Probe
Improved Telescopic Optical Probe achieves new precision in display measurement
The new TOP 200 Telescopic Optical Probe from Instrument Systems has now been launched on the market. In combination with a spectrometer, the TOP 200 permits precise measurements of radiance and luminance, as well as chromaticity of displays, panel graphics and other light sources. The core of the innovations compared with the previous model is a Pritchard style optical design with integrated view-finder camera and an aperture mirror angled at just 15°. This setup p rovides a perfectly round and sharp measuring spot for maximum accuracy. The internal camera allows the field of view to be visualized at the PC. It thereby facilitates exact positioning of the TOP 200 and focusing on the defined measuring spot.
A series of easily interchangeable lenses and software controlled apertures accommodate a large range of distances and measuring-spot sizes. The smallest measuring spot can be achieved with the high-resolution objective lens HRL-90 and is only 75 μm in diameter.
The light radiation is guided to the spectrometer along a multimode fiber. The patented mode mixer from Instrument Systems delivers uniform light transmission in the fiber and thereby facilitates reproducible measuring results, even if the position of the fiber is changed. The measuring error is below 1% compared with an error of up to 20% without mode mixer.
