NOVEMBER 2--Basler Vision Components (Ahrensburg, Germany; www.basler-vc.com ) will expand its existing camera portfolio with a new camera series named pioneer. The Basler pioneer series has a Gigabit Ethernet interface, so it can replace existing Camera Link solutions. And, because Basler pioneer cameras use the same sensors currently used in its Camera Link cameras, no optics changes are required.

The eight new Basler pioneer models are all equipped with highly sensitive sensors. The available sensor sizes range from VGA to 2 Mpixels and offer users full flexibility in choosing a resolution. The progressive-scan sensors from Kodak used in Basler pioneer cameras have a fast readout time and are for use with the new Gigabit Ethernet interface. Because it achieves a more than 25% higher bandwidth and frame rate than FireWire b, Gigabit Ethernet is the interface of choice when running these cameras in 12-bit mode.

All Basler pioneer models are compliant with the GenICam standard. GenICam offers a software interface that is independent from camera hardware. This standardized software interface allows easy integration of different camera models, increases user efficiency, and saves time and money.

Another new technology incorporated into the Basler pioneer is the GigE Vision standard. GigE vision standardizes the use of a Gigabit Ethernet network for machine vision applications. With GigE Vision, longer cable lengths are easy and cost-effective to realize. With a data rate of up to 100 Mbytes/s, GigE Vision allows a move away from more expensive Camera Link solutions and eliminates the need for a frame grabber.

The cameras can be seen in Basler's booth at VISION 2006 in Stuttgart.
