NOVEMBER 2--DALSA (Waterloo, ON, Canada; www.dalsa.com) has announced the expansion of its Piranha family of linescan cameras to include a Piranha Color model. The Piranha Color will be showcased during VISION 2006 (November 7-9) at DALSA's stand #4.0 616. DALSA's Piranha cameras are designed for high-speed and high-throughput applications, such as patterned color web (print) inspection, color document scanning, food inspection, and printed-circuit-board inspection.

The Piranha Color is available in 2k or 4k resolutions with line rates up to 33 kHz. DALSA has pioneered unique trilinear sensor technology to maximize color performance. In addition, Piranha Color features easy setup, built-in flat-field correction, and a Camera Link interface. The Piranha Color will be available in Q1 2007.

The company also announced the expansion of its Genie family of Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) digital cameras with two higher-resolution models. The Genie-M1024 and Genie-M1400 will be showcased during VISION 2006, as well. DALSA's Genie cameras are designed specifically for industrial imaging applications.

The Genie-M1024 uses a 1/3-in. monochrome CCD image sensor with a resolution of 1024 x 768, offering a pixel size of 4.65 x 4.65 at 20 frames/s. The Genie-M1400 uses a 1/2-in. monochrome CCD image sensor, with a resolution of 1360 x 1024 at 15 frames/s. Both the Genie-M1024 and the Genie-M1400 transmit data over standard CAT-5e and CAT-6 cables to distances up to 100 m. Future versions of the M1024 and M1400 will be available in color as well as high-speed versions.

Genie cameras are supported by DALSA's Sapera Essential machine-vision software. Sapera Essential is a value-add machine vision software imaging toolkit that bundles image acquisition and control with image-processing tools to provide developers with the functionality to design, develop, and deploy high-performance machine-vision systems.
