JULY 11--ISRA Vision (Darmstadt, Germany), a supplier of industrial image-processing technology, has made a successful start in a new field--metals. Its first orders, totaling 750.000 euros, were signed recently with East European and German customers, and negotiations are currently underway for further orders from international customers.

To participate in the worldwide market growth of machine vision, ISRA is carrying over its expertise from the surface vision sector to various branches of industry. In the metal sector, ISRA is concentrating on niche applications for steel, aluminum, copper, and brass. The new systems for the metal market are equipped with the fastest cameras, an established lighting design, and FPGA-based processor technology.

ISRA uses digital image-processing technology for the optical inspection of web materials (such as glass, film, nonwovens, and paper) and for robot-guidance tasks in automated production and packaging. According to estimates, at present only about 20% of possible applications are being exploited. Currently the global market volume comes to about 6.5 billion euros. Annual growth rates worldwide are currently estimated at approximately 10%.
