SEPTEMBER 27--PerkinElmer Optoelectronics (Fremont, CA; optoelectronics.perkinelmer.com/), a provider of market-driven integrated solutions for biomedical and industrial applications, has announced a new CCD camera with high image quality, standard interfaces, and multipurpose functionality that meets a variety of OEM biotechnology applications. The MultiBlue Biotech CCD camera, with plug-and-play USB 2.0 interface, joins the ColdBlue Cooled CCD camera in the growing PerkinElmer family of high-performance yet cost-effective camera solutions for biotech manufacturers.

PerkinElmer's new MultiBlue Biotech CCD camera was developed with input from major OEMs of biotech equipment. It is designed for instruments used in a variety of life-sciences applications including gene research and therapy, genomic/proteomic sequencing and expression, gel documentation, and drug discovery.

MultiBlue offers a broad set of technical features designed to meet the diverse needs of biotech engineers, eliminating the cost and hassle of specialized cameras for different applications. It is equipped with a plug-and-play USB 2.0 interface, allowing users to be up and running in less than 30 minutes. This ease of integration combines with multipurpose functionality to lower the cost of ownership of the MultiBlue camera.

With a video rate of 5 frames/s (typical of cameras with USB interfaces), MultiBlue is ideal for point-and-shoot imaging applications. For applications that require higher-speed imaging of up to 50 frames/s, PerkinElmer will offer an additional MultiBlue Biotech CCD camera with a FireWire (IEEE-1394b) interface later this year. The 12-bit camera has excellent signal quality with a 66-dB noise performance.
