MAY 11--Atmel Grenoble SAS (France; www.atmel.com/products/Cameras/ ) and Stemmer Imaging (www.stemmer-imaging.de) have entered a long-term agreement for the sale of industrial cameras in central Europe. Atmel's portfolio comprises a variety of high-speed and high-resolution products, including the AviiVA monochrome and color linescan range, featuring 512- to 8192-pixel sensors and data rates up to 160 MHz, and the Akyla HD family of tri-CDD color cameras. These professional cameras are dedicated to industrial applications such as flat-panel-display inspection, OCR and barcode reading, wood or currency inspection, and CD or DVD quality control.

Also included in Atmel's portfolio is the Camelia family that integrates full-frame sensors of 4 and 8 Mpixels in both black-and-white and color versions. These cameras target applications such as ophthalmology and display inspection in machine vision, metrology, and document scanning.

Philippe Descamps, Atmel Grenoble European sales manager, said, "With its competent pre- and postsales support and strong infrastructure, as well as its 20-year experience in industrial image processing, Stemmer is a market leader for the distribution of image processing components."

The Stemmer Group was founded in 1973 and launched its machine-vision activity in 1987 with the creation of Stemmer Imaging. In 1997, the company created an international sales and distribution network, and in 2003 Stemmer had approximately 44 employees and registered sales of 17.5 million euros. The company's sales force offers imaging solutions from the optics, lighting, camera, and frame-grabber fields to its target customers and develops software, cabling, and custom solutions (including hardware and software accessories), thus providing a complete range of image processing components.

Founded in 1984, Atmel Corporation is headquartered in San Jose, CA, with manufacturing facilities in North America and Europe. Atmel designs, manufactures, and markets advanced logic, mixed-signal, nonvolatile memory, and RF semiconductors.
