APRIL 10--Western Digital Corp. (Lake Forest, CA; www.westerndigital.com) has released its FireWire/USB 2.0 Combo Special Edition external hard drives. These drives come in a contemporary clear, light-up case; feature an 8-Mbyte cache; provide dual interface compatibility; and, with their 250-Gbyte capacity, are claimed as the largest capacity 7200-RPM external hard drives available.

The drives are well suited to adding fast, reliable, high-performance storage for desktop users and provide notebook users with a cost-effective way to increase their storage capacity through either a FireWire or USB 2.0 port. In addition to providing a convenient solution for backing up an internal hard drive and rather than using multiple CDs or other removable media, the external drives can be stacked together and routed through a hub, enabling users to add virtually unlimited storage capability. These external hard drives provide hot-swappable storage that can be easily disconnected from a computer and locked up for security or shared from computer to computer.

The complete kit includes FireWire/USB 2.0 Combo Special Edition external hard drive in clear, light-up case; 6-ft (1.8-m) 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable; 6-ft (1.8-m) USB 2.0-certified cable; ac adapter with power cord; and quick install guide.
