MARCH 22--DALSA Corporation (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada) has signed a Purchase and Sale Agreement to acquire the CCD Image Sensors Business of Royal Philips Electronics (Eindhoven, The Netherlands). This announcement follows and confirms DALSA's January 23, 2002, press release in which the signing of the term sheet between DALSA and Philips was announced.

The acquisition is a significant step in DALSA's strategy for growth in digital imaging solutions. It will improve DALSA's capabilities in the semiconductor image-sensor sector. The acquisition immediately gives DALSA technology and market share in image sensors for professional digital still cameras, a strengthened position in life-sciences imaging, and increased market share in other industrial and professional imaging sectors.
