MARCH 9, 2009--Two new GigE Vision-compliant camera, the Genie C1600 and Genie M1600, feature a new 2-Mpixel, high-resolution sensor appropriate for industrial imaging applications in the semiconductor, robotics, and traffic control industries. The cameras use Gigabit Ethernet technology to transmit data over standard Cat 5e and Cat 6 cables to distances up to 100 m. The Genie 1600 features a 1/1.8-in. CCD sensor (8.923 mm diagonal; Sony ICX274) and is available in color (C1600) and monochrome (M1600) versions running at 15 frames/s. Additional features include global electronic shutter with exposure control, on-board flat-field correction, and on-board color conversion (used by the C1600). The GigE Vision camera acts as a single machine vision component, integrating both advanced camera and board image acquisition technologies in one package. The camera features an RJ-45 ruggedized screw-mount cable connector, suitable for robotic applications. The Genie 1600 cameras are supported by Sapera Essential software and the Genie Framework package, which employs Trigger-to-Image Reliability engineering to accelerate application development and deployment time by providing developers with a 360-degree view of the entire acquisition process.

PRESS RELEASE

DALSA Introduces Two New Genie Cameras with 2 Megapixel Resolution

New sensor enables superior image capture
Genie Cameras to be showcased at VISION 2008 in Stuttgart, Germany, Nov 4-6, 2008

WATERLOO, ONTARIO -- October 29, 2008 -- DALSA Corporation (TSX: DSA) today announced two new models of its Genie GigE Vision-compliant camera family. The Genie C1600 and Genie M1600 cameras feature a new high quality, 2 Megapixel, high resolution sensor ideal for industrial imaging applications in the semiconductor, robotics and traffic control industries. The Genie Series cameras are extremely easy to use and this has resulted in their success and swift adoption. The cameras have rapidly displaced analog cameras to become the "camera of choice" in machine vision. To learn more about this industry trend, download DALSA's whitepaper "Making the Move from Analog to Digital." The new Genie cameras will be first showcased and demonstrated at the VISION 2008 trade fair in Stuttgart, Germany at the DALSA stand in Hall 4, Booth D 51

The Genie 1600 features a 1/1.8 inch CCD sensor (8.923 mm diagonal) from SONY (ICX274) and is available in colour (C1600) and monochrome (M1600) versions running at 15 frames per second (FPS). Additional features include: global electronic shutter with exposure control, on-board flat-field correction, and on-board colour conversion (used by the colour model) to produce crisp and clear images. The GigE Vision camera acts as a single machine vision component -- integrating both advanced camera and board image acquisition technologies in one small package. The camera features an RJ45 ruggedized screw mount cable connector, ideal for robotic applications.

High Quality Image Capture in ITS
Machine vision technology is used in Intelligent Transportation Systems to automate the management, monitoring and enforcement of traffic laws such as speed and red light violations, as well as toll collection. One of the leading suppliers of digital solutions for traffic enforcement uses DALSA's 2 Megapixel Genie camera in a system which builds on the technology of the existing 'fixed spot speed systems' by measuring speed over a greater distance than traditional speed cameras. As a result of using this advanced camera technology, the system now accounts for people who leave the road or change lanes, allows for cars to be viewed more clearly and shares this information to decision makers in a more timely manner.

GigE Vision
Like all Genie cameras, the C1600 and M1600 are certified GigE Vision compliant, and are based on the AIA (Automated Imaging Association) GigE Vision Standard to directly link the camera to a PC. These new Genie cameras take full advantage of Gigabit Ethernet technology, transmitting data over standard CAT-5e and CAT-6 cables to distances of up to 100m allowing for a greater distance between the camera and inspection system. DALSA continues to lead the deployment of the GigE Vision standard in terms of adopting the technology into their product development efforts.

Software Advantage
The Genie C1600 and M1600 cameras are supported by DALSA's Sapera Essential software and its Genie Framework package for fast and simple camera set-up -- from initial set-up to grabbing images in minutes. Moreover, the Genie Framework employs DALSA's advanced Trigger-to-Image Reliability engineering, significantly accelerating application development and deployment time by providing developers with a 360-degree view of the entire acquisition process.

This family of Genie cameras is easy-to-use and affordable. Other models include: the Genie Colour Series models C1410, C640, C1024 and C1400; their monochrome counterparts, models M1410, M640, M1024 and M1400; and the Genie HM Series camera, models HM640, HM1024 and HM1400 (monochrome cameras which operate at up to 300 FPS, in VGA resolution).
