JANUARY 14, 2009--The open-source program library OpenCV has been adapted to the proprietary VCRT operating system, implemented on all VC smart cameras. OpenCV was originally developed by Intel and published under a BSD license, running only on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux systems. OpenCV includes many algorithms enabling movement detection, facial recognition, object tracking, contour processing, and image segmentation. Using the image-processing library, the smart cameras are able to independently execute all image-processing routines, to serve as a replacement for standard PC-based systems. The compact cameras are suitable for industrial environments and incorporate all components required for image processing: image sensor, processor, frame grabber, interfaces, and several PLC I/Os.
