DECEMBER 7, 2009--The 4-Mpixel KODAK KAI-04050 image sensor, based on the TRUESENSE 5.5-µm interline transfer CCD platform, provides broad dynamic range, high imaging performance, and full resolution frame rate of up to 32 frames/s for 1-in. optical format devices. A region of interest (ROI) mode supports partial sensor readout at higher frame rates, such as 40 frames/s for 3 Mpixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio, or more than 90 frames/s for standard VGA--appropriate for fine focusing of an image before high-resolution capture. These features make the KAI-04050 appropriate for applied imaging markets such as machine vision, industrial inspection, traffic monitoring, and medical applications. The sensor will be available in both color and monochrome configurations.

PRESS RELEASE

Kodak Extends CCD Portfolio with New 4-Megapixel Device for Industrial Markets

High Performance CCD Image Sensor Joins Integrated Family Targeted to Applied Imaging Applications

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE:EK) is again leveraging its latest technology to bring a new level of performance and image quality to machine vision and other applied imaging markets.

The 4-megapixel KODAK KAI-04050 Image Sensor, based on the KODAK TRUESENSE 5.5 micron Interline Transfer CCD Platform, sets a new benchmark for 1" optical format devices by providing broad dynamic range, excellent imaging performance, and full resolution frame rate of up to 32 frames per second. A Region of Interest (ROI) mode enhances the flexibility of the sensor by supporting partial sensor readout at even higher frame rates, such as 40 fps for 3 megapixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio, or over 90 fps for standard VGA - appropriate for fine focusing of an image before high-resolution capture. Combined, these features make the KAI-04050 an outstanding choice for applied imaging markets such as machine vision, industrial inspection, traffic monitoring, and medical applications.

"The KAI-04050 is the fifth product based on Kodak's new Interline Transfer CCD platform, and is being commercialized less than twenty-four months after the first member of this product family was announced" said Chris McNiffe, general manager of Kodak's Image Sensor Solutions group. "By quickly establishing a full portfolio of products based on this new technology, customers can now choose from a broad selection of new sensors with different resolutions, optical formats, and frame rates to select the product best matched to their application. And since these sensors all share the same advanced technology, customers can be assured of outstanding image quality and performance when using any member of this product family."

The new image sensor is the latest product to use the KODAK TRUESENSE 5.5 micron Interline Transfer CCD Platform, an advanced technology that offers significant advances in pixel size, frame rate, and image quality compared to Kodak's previous generation of technology. This family of interline CCD image sensors - ranging from the 1-megapixel KODAK KAI-01050 Image Sensor to the 8-megapixel KODAK KAI-08050 Image Sensor - all share common pin-out and electrical configurations, allowing camera manufacturers to leverage camera designs across the entire sensor portfolio to shorten time-to-market for new camera products.

The KAI-04050 will be available in both color and monochrome configurations. Engineering grade devices are currently available, and production availability is planned for Q4, 2009.
