APRIL 8, 2009--A complete IP surveillance and machine-vision camera reference design based on the Blackfin BF526C processor is now available. The reference design, which aims to help engineers quickly develop and customize "smart camera" designs, implements a complete IP video camera, including the camera lens and a D1/HD1/CIF resolution image sensor. Aimed primarily at engineers developing security surveillance and machine-vision applications, the reference design includes a Blackfin processor running the uClinux operating system. The BF526C provides a convergent solution in a unified core architecture that allows video signal processing concurrent with RISC MCU processing to handle network interface demands. The processor provides camera developers with an integrated audio codec (SSM2603 derivative), streaming video and IP protocols, on-chip DRAM memory, and interfaces for 10/100 Ethernet, USB and SD storage, as well as a native RS-232 port.

- Blackfin running uClinux OS provides a broad range of capabilities from basic security monitoring to advanced video analytics

Norwood, MA (03/30/2009) - Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) announces the availability of a complete IP surveillance and machine vision camera reference design based on the company's Blackfin BF526C processor. The reference design, which aims to help engineers quickly develop and customize "smart camera" designs, implements a complete IP video camera, including the camera lens and a D1/HD1/CIF resolution image sensor.

"This design contains all of the functionality for an advanced, networked digital camera," said Michael Long, Product Line Manager for Industrial Video and Imaging Solutions in Analog Devices' General Purpose DSP Division. "The performance of the Blackfin solution enables a range of capabilities from basic monitoring to those found in today's advanced 'smart camera' products."

Aimed primarily at engineers developing security surveillance and machine-vision applications, the reference design includes a Blackfin processor running the uClinux operating system. The BF526C provides a convergent solution in a unified core architecture that allows video signal processing concurrent with RISC MCU processing to handle network interface demands. Powerful video and audio processing on a single convergent processor provides for a unified software development environment, faster system debugging and deployment, and lower overall system cost. The processor provides camera developers with an integrated audio codec (SSM2603 derivative), streaming video and IP protocols, on-chip DRAM memory, and interfaces for 10/100 Ethernet, USB and SD storage, as well as a native RS-232 port.

The reference design unit can capture video at CIF, VGA, and D1 resolutions at either 30 fps (NTSC) or 25 fps (PAL). The fully programmable Blackfin solution allows for numerous video compression standards such as H.264 and MPEG4 while the audio is encoded to the G.729 standard. The camera supports 2-way audio for communication from control centers to camera locations. Pan-Tilt-Zoom control is supported through either Pelo-P or Pelo-D protocol.

An optional daughter card with the dual-core BF561 processor is available, enabling the system to deliver increased video resolution, while providing headroom to perform advanced analytic processing on the video stream such as motion detection/tracking.

Availability
The IP camera reference design is available immediately in the U. S. through DigiLink Software of Irvine CA, a leading supplier of IP-based digital media software and turnkey solutions. Beijing Emvideo Technology Co, Ltd is distributing and supporting the new design in Asia. European support is available through Cynove.
