Echodyne, a radar platform company specializing in advanced sensing technologies, has announced a near-term expansion of its radar production capabilities with a $40 million investment in a new 86,350 sq.-ft. manufacturing facility in Washington State. Production is slated to begin this summer.
With an annual output capacity exceeding 30,000 radar units spanning multiple product lines, the facility will support a workforce of more than 200 employees at full capacity, according to a press release issued by the company. This expansion is in response to growing demand from sectors such as counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS), beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations—including drones-as-first responders (DFR)—force protection, border security, and on-the-move (OTM) applications. These use cases increasingly require high-resolution radar surveillance capable of reliably monitoring both air and surface environments, complementing optical and other sensor modalities in modern vision system architectures.
Echodyne’s technology centers on its patented Metamaterials Electronically Scanned Array (MESA) radar, which leverages engineered metamaterials to achieve electronically scanned beamforming in a compact, solid-state design. For engineers and integrators, the MESA radar offers advantages that include high data fidelity with accuracy and track stability, AI-enabled classification algorithms for improved threat identification, and well-documented, high-speed application programming interfaces (APIs) designed for integration into complex system of systems environments.
