Sept. 19, 2006
SEPTEMBER 19--LINOS has invested about EUR 5.3 million in a new production center in Regen.

SEPTEMBER 19--At a ceremony marking the opening of a new LINOS (Göttingen/Regen, Germany; www.linos.de) production center on September 15, the Parliamentary Secretary of State at the German Ministry of Economics and Technology, Dagmar Wöhrl, emphasized the importance of optical technologies for the German business community. "The use of light--optical technologies--is a German success story. The German government has launched the 'high-tech strategy for Germany.' The optical technologies play an important role here as a major enabling technology," Wöhrl said.

LINOS has invested about EUR 5.3 million in the new production center. The Lower Bavarian government helped to fund the project by granting subsidies. Volker Brockmeyer, chief financial officer of LINOS, said, "We intend to make Regen a group location that stays competitive in the long term. We have not just constructed a new building; we have also been investing in production technologies and staff training programs for years."

In the current fiscal year, LINOS is spending EUR 1.2 million on a new production line in Regen, with which complex optical systems are to be manufactured beginning in 2007. The new building has a production area of 7200 m2. About 250 LINOS staff deployed at the Regen location produce high-quality lenses and glasses for optical systems that are developed in Göttingen and Munich.

LINOS is a manufacturer of sophisticated optical systems and is a development partner and supplier for customers in markets such as lasers, optical metrology, medicine, biotechnology, and semiconductors.
