MAY 12--A special exhibition entitled 'Explore Machine Vision' (Hall B1, stand 111) at AUTOMATICA 2006 (16 to 19 May) will feature current developments in machine vision. Organized in cooperation with the VDMA, a range of companies and research institutions will be exhibiting items such as a circular saw that switches itself off as soon as its imaging system sees that a human hand has come too close.

Other exhibits will show how using machine vision it is possible to do an automatic comparison of shoe prints in criminological databases, to identify faces using biometric data, and to conduct accurate, fast blood analyses by means of computer-assisted microscopy. Furthermore, visitors will be able to find out how image processing is improving surgical procedures, which applications make use of new 3-D processes, how image processing at the speed of light operates, and how new techniques are being used to identify materials based on their chemical composition.

Among the highlights of this special exhibition at AUTOMATICA 2006 will be the 'intelligent' kitchen table. This 'recipe table' features a miniature camera that can identify food items on the table, consult its database of recipes, and come up with a suggestion for a tasty dish that can be made with these items. All the user has to do is cook it himself.

'Explore Machine Vision' is an opportunity for visitors to look at current technologies and to explore their own ideas for using machine-vision systems.

AUTOMATICA has been held every two years at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre since 2004. AUTOMATICA is a communication platform for the areas of robotics, assembly and handling technology, industrial imaging, and associated technologies. The aim of the fair is to present the entire value-added chain in robotics and automation. The industry-driven concept for AUTOMATICA has been developed by Messe München GmbH and the conceptual sponsor of the fair, the robotics and automation division of Germany´s engineering federation (VDMA).
