FEBRUARY 24--August Technology Corporation (Minneapolis, MN; www.augusttech.com), a supplier of inspection and metrology solutions for the microelectronic industries, has received a multiple system order for $2.7 million from one of the world's largest wafer foundries, based in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The systems, scheduled to ship in the next six months, are to be installed for outgoing wafer-processing quality control and on the sort floor for wafer inspection of 200- and 300-mm wafers.

"Our automated inspection systems will be used by this customer to detect process inconsistencies not only in the final manufacturing process on the sort floor, but also further upstream as the products are leaving the wafer fab," explained Ardy Johnson, August Technology vice president of strategic marketing. "Within the semiconductor industry, August Technology is uniquely positioned to provide our customers with the capability of capturing and sharing directly comparable defect information learned in the fab with the post-fab process engineers. This enables our customers to gain far more complete insight into their entire process."
