NOVEMBER 13--The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA; Milpitas, CA), leader in video-display standards development, has announced the release of the Flat Display Mounting Interface (FDMI) standard. "The existing VESA Flat Panel Monitor Physical Mounting Interface standard, originally published in 1997, has been widely implemented by the flat-panel-monitor manufacturing community," according to Harry Sweere, chairman of Ergotron and FDMI workgroup leader. "It has facilitated the sale and utilization of flat-panel monitors into many new markets and applications at the lowest possible cost to both manufacturers and end users. The new FDMI standard includes the full range of flat displays and is expected to provide similar application growth and economic benefits to the entire flat display industry."

Key features and benefits of FDMI include low cost, standardized mounting interfaces for a broad range of FD sizes and applications, and access to all markets and applications for FDs.

FDMI is available now and can be ordered from the VESA Web site at www.vesa.org.
